Research Engineer: Computational Biomechanics & Physiology
The Computational Medicine and Biology (CMB) Division of CFDRC is developing software tools for high profile projects for the DARPA, DoD, NIH and others. Main focus is in the development of multiscale mathematical models of human body to study biomechanics, physiology, biology and computational pharmacology. Job Description
As a part of this program, the candidate will be involved in developing commercial grade software for visualization and simulation of human or bio-related physics (gait, movement, energetics/metabolism, thermal comfort, ballistic or blast impacts, injury and protection, etc.). The job responsibilities include:
- Development of software tools for digital human modeling and simulation.
- Formulation and implementation of mathematical models of human biomechanics and physiology.
- Participation/Leadership in military medicine projects.
- Work is often performed in collaboration with US academia.
- Preparation of proposals to attract funding from federal agencies and private business.
Desired Skills
- B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in computer/mechanical/biomedical engineering, or a related field
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills, creativity in R&D
- Fluency in C/C++, knowledgeable in object oriented concepts, Windows and Linux.
- Computer graphics programming experience with one or more 3D graphics toolkits, i.e. OpenGL, OpenSceneGraph, VTK, etc., is a definite plus
- Experience in biomechanics, physiology, digital human or 3D character modeling
- Experience in numerical techniques, linear algebra, and optimization is a plus
- GUI programming experience, especially Qt is a plus
- GPU programming experience with Cuda or OpenCL is a plus
- Parallel computing experience with MPI and OpenMP is a plus
- Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills to contribute to both internal and external collaboration
- US citizenship or permanent residency is desired.
